Balance your outfit…

Have you ever seen the cutest dress on someone that was completely ruined with an abundance of accessories? You know, the big cloth flower barrette, 4 necklaces, dangly earrings, giant studded belt, pantyhose with designs on them, and the strappy shoes to finish it off. I hate to be the one to tell you, but you are not on Sex in the City, more is not always better. You are not more “fashionable” when you wear as much crap as possible. This is where women need to learn the art of balancing an outfit. Sometimes it can be tough, but i will give you a few tricks to help you out.
*When you wear a piece with colorful designs or textures, you need to minimize the accessorizing. You want to draw attention to the garment. Just because those giant earrings are the same color doesn’t mean you need to wear them. That’s why you bought the piece of clothing right? Because it grabbed your attention wearing just a hanger. If the piece is a top, and you are wearing it with jeans or black pants, find some fun shoes in the same color mode as the top. Pick solid color shoes, or multi-colored for a more dramatic but balanced effect. If the piece is a dress… let the dress do the work. Solid color shoes will be a good choice.
*You’ve decided that you absolutely have to have those purple studded knee high boots. Pair them with solid color leggings and a very plain top or dress. This is where you CAN wear those earrings that are the same color as the boots. It causes the eyes to move from top to bottom, or bottom to top, highlighting the boots, and earrings. Or, skinny jeans and a cotton tunic… casual sheik yet fashionable.
*The classic black dress. Bring on the big belt! Wear a fun stylish brightly colored belt, but keep it simple with the shoes. Black dress, black simple shoes, BIG FUN BELT! Or, whip out those incredible hot pink stilettos. (nix the belt if you do) Wear the fun earrings, or carry the outlandish clutch. Imagine the possibilities on how you can dress up or down that classic black dress.
*If you are wearing a top/dress with a beaded/studded/embellished neckline, DO NOT wear a necklace. I’m saying please.
The idea here is not to dull down your appearance, the idea is to enhance the pieces you are wearing that deserve attention. Remember ladies, you can be fashionable with accessories, just don’t wear all of them at the same time.
