Summer is here and that means it’s grilling season! My personal favorite. I have fond memories of my dad hauling out the Webber, cleaning off that grill with his wire brush, getting those coals heated up and tossing on a steak or some chicken breasts with a jar of BBQ sauce close at hand. He even smokes the turkey on his Webber for Thanksgiving. (If you’ve never had a smoked turkey, I highly suggest you try it. This site is a great resource for smoking your turkey the right way.)

But now that my wife and I are eating healthier, I’ve been looking around for some healthy alternatives to steaks, ribs and kielbasas for the grill. My first exposure to vegetarian grilling was corn on the cob. It was amazing! I have never tasted anything better, now whenever we have corn I wish we had a grill in the house just so we could grill it. And of course there’s the old stand by; grilled asparagus.

But, if you’re a vegetarian/vegan, do not fear the invite to a friend’s grill-out. Or if you’re hosting a pool party, don’t be afraid to invite those freaky non-meat eating buddies over, there are a plethora of choices for healthy non-meat grilling. Outside of the aforementioned grilled corn on the cob or grilled asparagus (YUM!) there are some quite gourmet, if not easy, recipes out there. One site I found has dozens of recipes that look amazing. Everything from garlic bread and bruschetta, to feta & potato burgers and chili queso tortillas. But before you think this is just some weird veggie website, this guy has all kinds of recipes and grilling tips. So if you’re planning that get together at the shore, check him out and get your grilling on the right way. And, of course, don’t forget to check out my blog for some tasty raw ice cream recipes, sure to put a smile on anyone’s face on a hot summer day.

Eat healthy my friends! :)
