Get hooked on Citizen Cope

A few years back, my girlfriend introduced me to an amazingly talented singer/songwriter, who calls himself Citizen Cope. It started out with the song “Bullet and a Target”, and led to like 6 other incredible songs (from his album The Clarence Greenwood Recordings) when I typed his name into LimeWire. Piracy rules.
I’m trying to think of artists to compare his style to, and honestly- I can’t. His music is like Blues/Rock/Indie with a hint of Rap. And that combo right there makes for some soulful sh*t. His voice is definitely one of the most unique I’ve heard. There’s a deep rasp in it, and I get the impression that he can sing in just the way he talks which is awesome- and not easy to do.
I’m actually really surprised that so many people I’ve asked say they haven’t heard of Citizen Cope, but as soon as I play a song for them, they’re hooked. It’s the kind of music that really makes you feel something. And it’s also the kind of music that I turn up in the car to the point where it can be heard within a 4 car radius.
I’m not the kind of person that is so into music that I will go out of my way to see an obscure band play a venue in my local area- but these guys (C.C. and his backup) came to Toad’s Place in New Haven and I was ALLL about it. They put on a GREAT show, and I was correct in thinking this dude would be equally as cool in person, if not cooler. I SO wanted to chill with him after, but didn’t get to ’cause he bounced.
Anyways, check this dude out. You really might thank me.
Catch Citizen Cope live at the Music Box @ Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ on 4/23/10!

Actually, “The Rainwater LP” is his latest. I think it came out in January… good stuff! You can download it for $8.99 here > http://www.citizencope.com/topspin/topspin2.htm

Hey was amazing last night at the Wavehouse in San Diego. Just…perfect. Except he didn’t play my favorite song.
