Channeling the Gangsta Within

Music

Back in high school, if you ever saw me stopped at a stoplight in my little Jetta, chances are your side mirrors were quivering from the music blasting out of my speakers (which I eventually blew). However, you wouldn’t have heard Britney Spears or Matchbox 20 (yuck), like any normal teenage white girl from Connecticut. No- you most likely would’ve heard the kind of gangster rap you didn’t even know existed because there’s no way it would be played on mainstream radio/TV. Best believe that got me some looks. Good thing I’m hot- I might have been embarrassed. But it’s strange, right? I just attribute it to the fact that I’m crazy and have like 14 different personalities. One of them is bound to be a thug.

So anyway, if you’re at all like me (or the guy during the opening credits of Office Space), you occasionally like to get amped up to a good, loud, raunchy, ima-kill-yo-ass rap song. Over the years, I’ve made a collection of my favorite “That’s my JAM“s based upon the intensity of the beat, the cleverness of the lyrics, how much it makes me bounce my head and the message behind all of it. Whether you’re black or white- it’s always good to be able to channel your inner homie. So power-up the Limewire and be ready to turn some heads…

THE G-LIST

1. Kray Twinz & D&G “Round One”

Off the Fight Night 3 soundtrack- you’ll definitely wanna knock someone out after this!

2. Kardinal Offishall “Bang Bang”

Contains a sample of Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang” (**HOT**)

3. Lil’ Kim feat. Twista “Thug Luv”

Siccccck track by two very talented rap artists.

4. 50 Cent “I’m Supposed to Die Tonight”

Get inside the mind of a real-life gang member! :)

5. Fabolous “Not Give a F*ck”

“I’m old enough to know better, but young enough to not give a f*****ck!”

6. Lost Boyz “Puff Harder”

For those who smoke BLUNTS, not bowls.

7. Mobb Deep “Win or Lose”

Just a chill song to help you be proud of the street life.

8. Nas “Rewind”

Tells a story backwards (literally)- it’ll blow your mind.

9. Olivia “Bizounce”

Always a personal favorite- for me and my fellow man-hatin’ bitches.

10. The Lox, DMX & Lil’ Kim “Money, Power, Respect”

A classic. If you haven’t heard it, shame on you.

11. Trina “Baddest Bitch”

A raunchy track for the freak bitch in you :)

12. Youngbuck “Let Me In”

About bein’ an underage gangster.

13. Beanie Sigel “Feel in in the Air”

One of my all-time faves; about bein a paranoid drug dealer. Gives me chills.

14. Brooke Valentine “Girl Fight”

This one’ll make you wanna tie your herr up and take your errings out.

15. 504 Boyz “I Can Tell”

A song strictly about sex. I love it.

16. Bone Thugz N’ Harmony “1st of the Month”

Another classic about puttin’ the bong down for a second and payin’ your rent.

17. Da Back Wudz “You Gonna Love Me”

A durrtay durrtay joint that’ll have you turnin’ up the bass.

18. Dilated Peoples “Back Again”

Another from the Fight Night 3 soundtrack

19. Fat Joe “Lifestyle”

One of the most intense beats out there.

20. Westside Connection “Gangsta Nation”

Lyrics are out of control- “I don’t conversate with chicks I ain’t gon’ hit. I don’t holler at the pros who sing like Ashanti, body like Beyonce, face like Andre- ewwww, you kinda stran-gee”

Honestly, the list could go on and on, but even just these will definitely prepare you for street life-  promise ;)
