With a forecast of mild temperatures, this is the perfect weekend to enjoy the good weather and get outside! Need an idea of how to spend your day? Head over the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. Both botanical garden and sculpture park, the Grounds for Sculpture is lovely way to take advantage of soaking up the sun while enjoying some great art.
Haven’t heard of the Grounds for Sculpture? Then, you are missing out! Established in 1992, the 35 acre sculpture park is the creation of philanthropist, sculptor and heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, Mr. J. Seward Johnson. There are permanent outdoor exhibits, as well as seasonal exhibits indoors. Visitors can also participate in workshops, seminars and lectures.
Visitors do not have to wait to enter the part to begin enjoying the exhibits. As you approach the park, Johnson has installed art along the roads and highways leading to the entrance. “Unconditional Surrender” is a 25 foot high monument depicting the infamous Times Square kiss between a lady and the soldier returning from World War II. Located just a mile from the park, the bigger than life sculpture sits on the corner of Klockner and Sloan avenues.
Would you like complimentary admission to the park? Dining in Rats or in The Lounge at Rats and your admission to the park is included! Rats is a fine dining establishment with a focus on well-traveled cuisine. Names after “Ratty”, in the Wind & the Willows, because his character was the most hospitable of hosts who always threw the best parties with the best food! The Lounge, however offers a more casual atmosphere.
