One of our contributors, Jessica Leigh Prokop (see “What are Horses Doing in Central Park?”), is an especially talented woman with a driving passion for her own life, and deep compassion when it comes to the lives of others. Not only can she write well, but her photography has something to it that isn’t often come across: a life-changing purpose.
For years, Jessica has involved herself in the activism against animal cruelty. But there came a time when she realized that she was able to help in a very special way, and she’s been doing it ever since.
Although her company began with a focus on “people portraiture”, she has been taking stunning portraits of sheltered animals to help find them families. The results have been both successful and heartwarming, and the pictures you see here are all animals that have been adopted with special thanks to their photographer.
Jessica also has a soft spot for Pit Bulls and Jindos, a Korean breed of dog with a loyal and gentle nature. These highly respected animals have an appearance that could be mistaken for a mut, and therefore, that’s one of the reasons they often don’t get the acknowledgement they deserve. Recently, Jessica has become involved in Treasured K9s, Inc.; an organization seeking adoption, especially for Jindos. Also, along with President/Founder of Treasured K9s, Kristen Edmonds, she is currently working on a calender and other projects featuring Jindos in New York City in hopes of increasing their chances of being recognized and adopted. We will let you know as soon as that is available.
Some of Jessica’s work can be found on the Treasured K-9 website and her own site, Jessica Leigh Photography. If you’d like to know how you can help find pets a warm place to call home and a loving family, contact Jessica here, and she will help you find some great organizations to work with!
